Packaging
The lipstick tube comes in a glossy gunmetal purple box.

The lipstick tube itself has an outer covering that made of high-quality cardboard with photographic prints of plant blossoms in white, orange, and purple on a mint green background. The prints do match up exactly when you close the tube, and this attention to detail coupled with a pursuit of perfection is the best mark of a high-quality product.

The outer case closes very tightly, such that there is a 'pop' sound whenever I open the case. And I daresay that the outer case is water resistant as well because it feels slightly waxy and it is resistant to powder and fingerprints.

The top and bottom of the outer case is a coral colour that is similar to the colour of the lipstick in the tube. This aspect applies to the other colours in this line of lipstick as well.

The inner case that holds the lipstick is a plastic coated in gold.

The packaging is top notch in all aspects.

The package. You can see that the prints on the top cap align exactly with the bottom of the tube.

Product

The lipstick itself is very moisturising and has a water shine finish when applied on my hand and when on the lips. The water shine finish is just right; it does not look glossy or oily. The product also glides on like butter.

However, it highlights every bit of dry skin on the lips and is a major disappointment.

Furthermore, this lipstick wears off very quickly. It applies more like a lip balm in the first place and so I have to reapply as frequently as I would a lip balm.

Colour

Coral Blossom is a pink coral (compared to Pantone Coral that is more orange) that is suitable for warm light to medium skin because it seems to reflect gold in white light even though there are no glitter or shimmer particles. You can see the gold overtone in the photo below.

This shade of coral leans more pink than red or orange and has a peach undertone.

The colour pigments in the lipstick are dense, and this lipstick covers up my dark lips well.

Ingredients
I bought this lipstick because the ingredients are unusual. Jojoba oil is the second most significant component of this lipstick. Jojoba oil is known to heal and not irritate skin. Some oils could irritate skin.

The photo below shows the ingredients list.
Rating: 2.5/5.
Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick delivers fully on the "butter" part of the lipstick but very little of the "lipstick". While highly pigmented and incredibly nourishing, this lipstick highlights every dry patch on my lips and does not last.

The price of this lipstick is around $32 if I recall correctly.Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-64655450975868443132016-06-16T03:38:00.000+08:002016-06-16T03:38:14.399+08:00What are the basic makeup products to buy for first-timersFor the record.

I find the two products very similar when I tried them out in the store.

At this point, I will put a link to the revised version of the L'oreal UV Perfect because I got mine before their patent was approved, so mine was in a different packaging.

Packaging
The L'oreal UV Perfect sunscreen comes in a standard 30 ml bottle that is only slightly taller than the width of my palm. As such, it is very travel-friendly.

The dispense tip of the bottle is a regular narrow point, similar to the dispensing mouth of sunscreens from Biore or Hada Labo. As such, it allows enough control over the dispense of fluid.

However, the L'oreal dispense tip felt slightly less exact than that of Hada Labo.

*I threw away the empty bottle, so I do not have a picture of the bottle.

Consistency
The L'oreal UV Perfect fluid is more viscous than the Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid UV Milk SPF 50+ PA+++ Emulsion Sunscreen.

The consistency of the product is also the same throughout my use without shaking.

Comparatively, I had not enjoyed the Hada Labo UV Milk too much because I had to shake it a lot in the rush mornings. I prefer using a product that is already well-mixed and will not separate as much overnight.

The fluid has a consistency that is more watery and leans towards a thick lotion as compared to the oily fluid of Hada Labo UV Milk.

Absorbency
I use an amount of product equal to about three lengths of my middle finger for my full face. I find that this product sinks into the skin well, and I have no complaints.

Effectiveness
I have found this sunscreen to be effective.

Wear-time
However, I thought the L'oreal UV Perfect did not last as long as the 12 hours that it claims to last.

While I find this a pity, I am not surprised as I expect to reapply sunscreen after 4 hours, even for a chemical sunscreen.

Multi-purpose
I tried using the L'oreal UV Perfect as a makeup base but was a bit disappointed, though the product has never claimed to be a makeup primer. The L'oreal UV Perfect is not as tacky as Japanese sunscreens and hence does not make a good makeup primer.

I had to layer a good makeup primer over this sunscreen if I wanted to apply foundation on the days when I used this sunscreen.

Ingredients
You will find the list of ingredients in the picture below.

Rating: 5/5
Pros: Easily accessible. Affordable (I believe that the price had increased after the patent was approved). Lightweight. Small size. Effective. Does not require shaking from day to day.

Cons: Does not seem to work as a makeup base as well as Japanese sunscreens.

I am caught between L'oreal and Hada Labo now as I find that they are the best sunscreens that I have tried thus far.Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-40119750588404229652016-06-12T17:48:00.004+08:002016-06-12T17:48:46.622+08:00Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer PotionUrban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion

I bought the Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion as a replacement for the Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer that I had emptied. The UD face primer is my second face primer of all time.

I chose the UD face primer because I love the brand as I have experienced the high effectiveness of their eye primer and eyeshadow. I will also put on record that I love their lip pencils and blushes. Naturally, UD is at the top of my mind when I wish to try a new product.

Thankfully, UD has lived up to my expectations. For one, the UD face primer contains little silicone and does not irritate my skin.

I am allergic to silicone. As such, I am not a big fan of face primers because many of them are high in silicone content.

I have noted that I got the Benefit primer three years ago. I think that marks how long a single primer could last me.

Packaging
Urban Decay's packaging is excellent on all fronts. I will put on record that this face primer comes with an appropriate cardboard box in UD's signature midnight purple, embossed with a silver UD logo and its tagline - beauty with an edge, on one side of the box.

The face primer tube itself has an enchanting castle-style turn-up cap and comes in UD plum purple.

Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion

I also love the incredibly narrow mouth of the tube because it allows me to squeeze out the exact amount I want. I usually use a pea-size of face primer.

Value for Money

I am glad to report that a pea-size amount of this primer is enough to cover my entire face. I was shocked by how far this primer spreads on the first time I used it.

I know I have used enough when my entire face feels tacky.

Effectiveness

This primer makes a few claims as follows:

"We're addicted. This refreshing, noticeably skin-tightening, tone-brightening potion is PACKED with high-performance ingredients that create instant and long-term beneficial effects. Wrinkles relax, tired areas tighten and lift, and dull skin comes alive. Prove it to yourself!"

~ Urban Decay

I agree that this primer refreshes me; I do feel so happy every time I apply this primer.

I have also felt the tightening effects consistent with every application.

However, I have had little luck with tone-brightening. I think the Benefit That Gal primer does a far better job to brightening my face because it has pearlised pink pigments.

Great Ingredients for Sensitive Skin

I am so grateful that this UD primer has so little silicone. I spot silica dimethyl silylate very low down on the ingredients list. =)

Ingredients: Aqua, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Polyacrylamide, Algae Extract, Thermus Thermophillus Ferment, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Butylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Pullulan, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Laureth-7, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Hexylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.

Feeling and Scent

Apart from the tackiness, there is the feeling of water droplets when I spread this primer over my face.

I have to forewarn you of the strange smell when you first squeeze out the primer. I think the smell comes from the unique blend of Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Glycerin, Algae Extract, Ferment, Vitamin E, and forms of alcohol.

However, the smell ceases once I spread it out.

Rating: 4.8/5.

I love its tackiness and gentleness but wish it would really brighten my complexion as promised.

I first heard of 13rushes makeup brushes from a local professional makeup artist, Roseanne Tang, via her YouTube channel. At that point, she had a collaboration line of brushes with 13rushes known as Bloom by Roseanne - the only 13 brushes you will ever need. I believe that the partnership has expired, and the selection of brushes by Roseanne is now known as The Signature Kit.

You may listen to Roseanne speaking on the set of thirteen brushes in The Signature Kit here:

https://youtu.be/5ZQfgndNUxM?t=18m33s

Bloom by Roseanne is also the name of Roseanne's makeup school in Singapore. And, I have had the good fortune to attend one of her 1-to-1 classes last year.

I chose to support the local startup in spite of some initial doubts because I got to try a few of the brushes on my face during the makeup class. I thought the brushes were gentle, effective, and had substantial weight.

Furthermore, I found the prices comfortable. At S$165 for thirteen brushes, each brush costs about $12.70. This price tag places 13rushes at a competitively across the world, as it is comparable to a few affordable brush lines, such as Bdellium Tools, and Zoeva.

Also, the name 13rushes is very innovative as '1' and '3' looks like the upper case 'B' when written close together!

Now, I will tell you more about how I use each of the 13rushes brushes and why I love them.

Disclaimer: I paid for the 1-to-1 makeup class with Roseanne and The Signature Kit.

The Signature Kit by 13rushes

The Signature Kit comprises thirteen different brushes and a brush holder. The brush holder is a rectangular cuboid that opens in half and closes by magnetic attraction (top half of the brush cup is not in the photo). There are magnets all around the rims of the opening, where my eyelash curler hangs.

The Signature Kit by 13rushes in Gold

I also love the size of the brush holder as it is large enough to contain all of my daily essentials - a pen concealer, mascara, an eyelash curler, and a brow pencil.

Currently, I leave the Marc Jacobs concealer, the Maybelline mascara, the Innisfree eyebrow pencil and the Canmake lash curler inside the 13rushes brush holder. Then, each morning, I carry the entire brush holder and the Hourglass palette to the washroom. I keep the Bourjois foundation in my washroom.

The 13rushes brush holder is convenient!

Bigger Brushes

There are five larger brushes in this set of thirteen brushes. They are the Round Powder, Ultimate Shader, Angled Flat Foundation, Flat Top Sculpting, and Oval Blush.

I use the Round Powder Brush most frequently, and I use it to apply four of the powders from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette below.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette. From top left to bottom right: Dim Light, Iridescent Light, Diffused Light, Mood Exposure, Luminous Flush, Luminous Bronze Light

I dip the Round Powder Brush in Dim Light (top left) and brush all over my face. I then dip the brush into Luminous Bronze Light (bottom right) and push the bronzer into the sides of my face, just beside my ears. I use the same brush to pat Luminous Flush (bottom middle) on my cheekbones and pull Mood Exposure (bottom left) in the hollow of my cheeks.

The Round Powder Brush is a one-of-kind multi-tasker!

I seldom use the Ultimate Shader. The brush is supremely soft, but I simply have little use for it. Recently, I began using the Ultimate Shader to apply very soft blushes such as the Urban Decay Afterglow Blush.

I seldom use the Angled Flat Foundation Brush as well as I prefer using the Flat Top Sculpting Brush for foundation instead. The Flat Top Sculpting Brush is amazing for foundation because the slim cut allows the brush to dip into the nooks and crannies of the face nicely. I like that the Flat Top Sculpting Brush is also just dense enough for medium coverage; you have to apply more than once to achieve full coverage.

I use the Oval Blush Brush the second most frequently. The Oval Blush Brush is just tiny enough to place highlighters exactly where I want. I tap the brush in Diffused Light (top right of the Hourglass palette) and pull the highlight above my cheekbones, and into my brow bones, drawing a 'C'. I then tap the brush in Iridescent Light (top middle of the Hourglass palette) and sweep it down my nose bridge, across my forehead, and on my chin. The Oval Blush Brush is the perfect highlighter brush for my medium-large size face.

Smaller Brushes

There are seven smaller brushes in this set. The brushes are Angled Flat Top Mini, Paddle Packer, Angled Brows, Short Shader, Pencil Brush, Elite Shadow, Fluffy Blender, and Soft-lip Perfector.

I have also taken a picture of the cross-section of these brushes and inserted it below.

I use the Angled Flat Top Mini Brush to draw strips of foundation across my face before I blend out the foundation using the Flat Top Sculpting Brush. I skip using this brush when I am rushing. I use my finger to draw the strips of foundation instead.

I seldom use the Paddle Packer Brush, but when I use it, I use it to apply concealer. I find this brush very soft. I also like the small size of the brush because it fits nicely under my eyes. However, I prefer the Sigma F75 Concealer Brush because that is far more tapered on the flat side and ends in a sharper point than the 13rushes one. The Paddle Packer Brush is still very usable and unique because it can be used for powder eyeshadows as well!

I find the Angled Brows Brush excellent, though I prefer the Lauren Luke Angled Eyeliner Brush for brow powder because I prefer brushes with a smaller width. I am very impressed by 13rushes Angled Brow Brush because it is usable. I like the thinness and flatness of the brush, as well as its stiffness. One just cannot apply brow powder without a stiff brush.

I love the Short Shader Brush because it behaves exactly like the M.A.C #239, except that it is a tad wider. The bristles on the Short Shader Brush are tapered highly on the flat side, and so it picks up more eyeshadow pigments. I also like the stiffness of brush as it helps push the eyeshadow along the rim of my eyes. It is also very comfortable and will not scratch my eyelids.

The Pencil Brush is easily the best amongst all my pencil brushes. It stays in shape, pick up enough pigments, is very precise, yet does a little bit of blending.

The Elite Shadow works like the M.A.C #217. It draws an explicit cut-crease, but it is still fluffy enough to blend. Perhaps the fundamental difference between the 13rushes Elite Shadow Brush and the M.A.C #217 is that the former is synthetic while the latter is natural. As such, the Elite Shadow Brush can work with non-powder eyeshadows, but the 217 is better at applying more colour; can be used in place of a shader brush.

The Fluffy Blender is my favourite brush in the entire Signature Kit! It was love at first use with the Fluffy Blender as this brush blends like a dream; so efficient, so effective. I'd say, it is the long-handled version of the EcoTools blending brush. No wonder it is always sold out on the 13rushes website.

The Soft-lip Perfector is impressive as the bristles never split into two as many lip brushes do. I also LOVE the petal-cut of the bristles as that helps me to apply colour precisely and curve the brush around my lips so smoothly. I stopped using my favourite Sasa Lip Sable after I got the 13rushes Soft-lip Perfector.
At the end of the day, what is most important to me in the context of makeup brushes is that the brushes are useful, feels comfortable on the skin, and are affordable. In this aspect, The Signature Kit by 13rushes has faired above and beyond expectations. The biggest bonus for getting this kit is that every single one of those brushes ended up something that I reach for on a daily basis, so much so that I kept the package together and did not just pick out the one or two good ones.

I also wish to give an honourable mention to the founder of 13rushes because she took my query with enthusiasm. She also asked for my opinions in a humble manner, with utmost interest to improve and innovate on 13rushes.
Then, I can hear everything at once by searching for the title of the tag.

Today, I will tackle the questions in The Blush Tag. I first heard of The Blush Tag from Kimberly Clark on YouTube (linked in below). And she saw the tag on NotYourTypicalDollFace YouTube channel by Sarah (linked in below). Sarah credited this tag to French origin and she was probably the first one who translated it into English. So, I have the questions and corresponding answers below.

For each question, I will post what I shortlisted and explain how I narrowed down to choose one blush.

Disclaimer: I bought the items one by one over a long period of time.<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">BLUSH TAG QUESTIONS:

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">1. Best Packaging
I interpret this two ways, (i) sophisticated, and (ii) girlish.

(i) For sophisticated packaging, I looked out for glamour, how practical the packaging is for storage and how easy it is for me to tell the colour. I asked myself,

"Which box would I collect when all the powder inside is gone?"

I shortlisted Catrice blushes, Essence blushes, Estee Lauder blushes, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting blushes.

Catrice, (leftmost), Essence, (centre), Estee Lauder (top right), and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (bottom right).

I love transparent packaging that allows me to see the product straightaway. I also love packaging that is stackable, like Catrice and Estee Lauder. At the same time, I appreciate large mirrors in a compact. In the photo below, you will see that both Estee Lauder and Hourglass have a sturdy compact that holds a good-size mirror.

In the end, I chose the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Blush as my answer to Best Packaging because I asked myself,

"Which is the most practical for me to bring to a dinner?"

So, I figured that beautiful gold finish with the large 'E' makes Estee Lauder stand out. Estee Lauder is stackable and closes tight. I also like that the colour of the blush is printed on the back of the compact. I have found this feature to be so useful when drawing out a blush from the stash.

(ii) For girlish packaging, I looked out for how strong is the character of the blush, how cute is it? I shortlisted Benefit blushes, Physicians Formula blushes, theBalm blushes and Skin Food blushes (Korean brand).

I love the Benefit Majorette Blush packaging in particular because it is a cute little cupcake.

The Majorette blush has a magnetic closure and a little round mirror inside. The cream product also has a beautiful sun emblem embossed on top and covered with a plastic cap.

I find that the Creative Director and his/her team at Benefit have an incredibly coherent idea of what Benefit Cosmetics represents. They are fun yet very practical, to the extent, all of Benefit products have their colours printed on the packaging without looking like they had tried too hard to show the colour.

All of that said, I choose Physicians Formula for Best Girlish Packaging, just because the blush itself always surprises me like no other. Physicians Formula keeps innovating the finish of its products to suit its name exactly. Physicians Formula spares no effort to make the powder look appetising. And for that, I think it deserves Best Girlish Packaging.

Rose blushes are hands down the best (if you have warm medium skin).

I am showing a series of rose blushes. They all look similar to NARS Deep Throat.

I have to be careful with the amount of strength I use when I tap my brush on this blush because it is easy to overdo.
Also, some say the shade Echo looks like NARS Orgasm blush. I think Echo is a deeper shade of coral and definitely more pigmented than NARS Orgasm.

I will award the Best Everyday Blush to Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush (the on in the middle in picture below) because I have been reaching for this over the rest for the last two months. I think the intensity is just right for everyday. With NARS Deep Throat, I feel like I have to use a foundation and some eye makeup to match. But with Hourglass, I usually wear this blush over my moisturiser or bare skin, with no other makeup.

I feel like saying Blush Horizon de Chanel but it is limited edition and not available anymore, so I will go with RMK (Japanese brand) EX-04 Pink Gold.

I use Blush Horizon de Chanel on special occassions only because it has a pretty rose gold bar that gives the golden sheen when mixed with all the other colours and also because I know there is no replacing this blush when it is gone. Using a limited edition blush on special occassions makes everything feel extra special.

The RMK blush has the most amazing iridescence amongst all my blushes. One moment, it shines blue and red, the next moment, it shines gold. That's what I call a true iridescence.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">6. Regret Purchasing
There are three things about makeup that tend to make me regret, (i) colour that does not suit me, (ii) products with so little pigments that they do not show up, and (iii) products that go bad too quickly. And the products in the photo below fall under these categories.

On the left of the photo, there is the Nvey Eco blush in 961 that is a metallic deep plum. It makes me look bruised.

Then on top, there is the e.l.f Studio Blush in Twinkle Pink that is supposed to be a dupe for NARS Deep Throat or NARS Orgasm but is neither. Twinkle Pink does not show up at all. It is too stiff to yield any colour. And the colour in the pan itself is far too light to look like NARS Deep Throat or NARS Orgasm.

Below, there is Sheene Choco Mousse Cheek that has dried out. I still love the colour a lot but I have learned that I should not buy cream products.

At the bottom, there is M.A.C Paint Pot that has all shriveled up.

I got the cream products some 5 years ago, and they will be discarded. I think I knew very little about life when I was younger, and I made some mistakes because I did not know myself fully and I did not know how certain products work. But then, that is how I learn, and that is what life is about - sometimes, you just learn the hard way. And that is when I want to share, so that others do not have to walk the same path.

Anyway, these are the swatches of those products: from left, Nvey Eco in 961, e.l.f Studio Blush in Twinkle Pink, Sheene Choco Mousse Cheek, and M.A.C Paint Pot.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">7. Least Used
I am shortlisting the blushes, Inglot (top left), Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush in Tangerine (top centre), Laura Geller Vanilla Peach Cobbler (top right), Bobbi Brown French Pink (bottom right), Illamasqua Lover and Hussy (bottom centre), Essence Flora Grunge Be Flowerful (bottom left).

I love these colours but I use them for special looks and special occassions.

I seldom touch my Inglot blushes because I accidentally scratch one of them with my nail so hard while flipping the magnetic top open. For a while, I was afraid to damage it any further.

I seldom use the Burberry Tangerine, Bobbi Brown French Pink, and Illamasqua Lover and Hussy because they are completely matte and I am not a fan of matte blushes. I only use them when I know I need a matte blush to tone down the look. Then, I will choose a colour from the three to match the lip colour that day. Burberry Tangerine is an earthy nude, Bobbi Brown French Pink is a plum pink that look bright on my skin, and Illamasqua Lover and Hussy are peach pink when used together.

I use Essence Floral Grunge Be Flowerful sparingly because I have yet to find a dupe for that limited edition colour.

And I seldom use Laura Geller Vanilla Peach Cobbler because it last less than 6 hours. I have worn this blush down a lot from its original dome because it is so beautiful. It is really just too bad that it does not last.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">9. Favorite Blush Brand
NARS. I love the variety of shades and the quality the brand assures. On the premise that I have hit pan on NARS Deep Throat for some time now and still feel like there is more than half of the 4.8g of product left, I think I can say that the NARS blushes are value for money.

I have got Tarte Exposed and Tarte Blissful from a long time ago but I have always found them to be stiff and have minimal payoff when I swatch them with my fingers. I only discovered how pigmented and long-lasting they are in these two months when I tried using a brush with them. Since then, I got myself Tarte Glisten (photo below) that looks like a cross between NARS Deep Throat and NARS Orgasm.<span style="font-family: "roboto", "arial", sans-serif;">

Innisfree Eco Camellia Tint. I use it as a base for all my blushes, to boost the colour and brightness, and also to hold the blush colour for longer throughout the day. The Innisfree Tint is a lifesaver for hot summers. The bare essentials will invariably be items that are effective and efficient in both usaage and costs. I will know what works and what does not work straightaway from a travel makeup bag. So here, I will share mine with you, and I hope you will enjoy such sharings too!

I bring my travel makeup in a soft clear plastic case by MUJI. I like this bag because it complies with flight safety regulations and still keep my items neat and compact. This particular MUJI case has the right length for storing eyeliners and pencils and the right width for cream product bottles. I hate packing my makeup in ziplog bags because I cannot deal with products that roll around without order.

My travel makeup bag - a soft clear plastic case from MUJI.

I bring one item from each essential category. I rely on the small size of the bag to discipline how much I take.

For prep, I like having some form of alcohol wipe. The Nivea Daily Essentials Refreshing Facial Cleansing Wipes are my latest favourites because it is so gentle on the skin, not soap or oily, effective, and packed in a very practical, small pack of just seven wipes. I contemplated the Biore Makeup Remover Wipes but found that to be too oily for on-the-plane cleansing since they were made specifically for removing makeup, not general cleansing. I also considered other packets of wipes that I own such as the one by Australis and Simple, but the packets are too big and impractical. I knew that I did surely waste it if I were to open them and use a few wipes; the remainder would dry up. I think Nivea did the right thing by packing their Daily Essentials line of wipes in different sizes for various purposes!

Besides, I bring a proper facial cleanser along so I usually use the facial cleanser and end up giving out the facial wipes to my family and friends. I decanted some of my Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution into a little spray bottle so that I could access the cleansing water conveniently.

Next, I picked up a couple of sachets of sample moisturisers for flight so that I could conveniently use and dispose of them. I also wanted to use up my samples. I chose the Philosophy Miracle Worker moisturiser because I love many Philosophy products and I trust that their moisturiser will last the flight time.

I also picked the Ceramide capsule by Elizabeth Arden because I was curious if the hyped product would work for me. I used one capsule during one of my trips and I love it! It works. I felt a combination of oil and silicone covered my skin as I apply the Ceramide over my face. That layer of Ceramide shielded my face from the dry air in the cabin like an invisible mask. I loved it.

Then, I took the Nuxe dry oil with me. I used so much of it in Australia because the air there was incredibly dry. The Nuxe oil saved my skin.

I also threw in two sample sizes BB creams which I used for a light coverage.

I brought Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Pure Mild Sunblock Lotion with SPF 50 PA+++ . I love the lightweight gel-cream texture but I find Neutrogena less effective than Banana Boat at truly shielding the skin from sun.

I also have my Hollywood Stain Remover Marker with me for emergency.

And I brought my Shu Uemura Retractable Blush Brush because retratable brushes are easy to store.

For makeup, I have my trusty NARS Deep Throat blush. Deep Throat is a medium shade of rose with gold specks. The rose colour makes it suitable for daytime while the gold specks means that it can pile on to create more glamour at night. NARS blushes are also incredibly long-lasting, so I do not have to reapply my blush on a trip.

I rely heavily on my NARS Eyelash Curler because it fits my eyes and so will not pinch me.

I also find Innisfree products very effective and cost efficient so I have three of them - the Eyebrow Pencil, the Eco Camellia Tint for cheeks and lips, and the pen Liquid Eyeliner. I strongly recommend buying the Innisfree Eyebrow Pencil and Liquid Eyeliner!

I cannot run from my trusty ole' Skinfood Red Orange Sun Pact SPF50+ PA+++ face powder. I find that it lasts forever on my skin to keep my face matte and relatively free of perspiration. It does not rub off easily. It is a true pity that Skinfood no longer sell this product.

I brought my Illamasqua lipstick in Cherub because it is a good shade of mauve that is my lips but better and also because Illamasqua lipsticks are long-lasting.

I also trust my Majolica Majorca Lash Expander mascara as it is truly waterproof and sweatproof. I strongly recommend buying Majolica Majorca's mascara. It is cost-efficient for the quality.

Last but not least, I have got my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Lip Pencil in Illegal. This product lasts well.

I love how all of these go nicely into a small bag.

I hope you've enjoyed the little tour of my travel makeup bag. Thank you for stopping by!
Ever Hip was released as a limited edition lipstick in the Give Me Liberty of London collection in 2010. Ever Hip remains a favourite colour to wear because it is a soft natural pink with the slightest tinge of coral on my lips with a glossy finish. In the bullet, Ever Hip is a peachy-orange. I have been searching a lipstick that matches this colour exactly because Ever Hip is running low in the bullet, and I also find that the product is getting old.

There is no change in the smell and texture of the product but I know that I got it six years ago and I am not the most comfortable with it.

Furthermore, Ever Hip is a top choice on many wishlists of makeup afficionados worldwide. So, I think a good dupe for it will benefit many.

I have searched through all brands that I can find in Singapore, by swatching the Ever Hip lipstick from the bullet and comparing the colour in stores. I have found only three lipsticks that have some resemblance. I do see subtle differences and I will describe them below.

The lipsticks are shown in their tube under sunlight below:

The swatches for Ever Hip and its possible dupes are as follows:

From left, Nippon Cremesheen by M.A.C, Ever Hip Cremesheen by M.A.C, NU37 Beige Truffle by Maybelline Coloursensational Nude, and Coral Blossom Amazonian Butter Lipstick by Tarte (rightmost and below).

The same swatches are shown under sunlight as follows:

From left, Nippon Cremesheen by M.A.C, Ever Hip Cremesheen by M.A.C, NU37 Beige Truffle by Maybelline Coloursensational Nude, and Coral Blossom Amazonian Butter Lipstick by Tarte (rightmost and below).

Colour
Ever Hip is a soft natural pink with tinges of rose and peach. Nippon by M.A.C is the most similar, but a teeny bit more dull as it has more rose tone. Beige Truffle by Maybelline is the next most similar but visibly more pink, less rose and less peach. Coral Blossom by Tarte is more coral, warmer, more orange in tone.

Other points of comparison
First, the finishes of all three dupes are 99% similar to Ever Hip - highly glossy.

Second, the pigmentation of all three dupes are also 95% similar. Beige Truffle by Maybelline is the most pigmented, followed by Coral Blossom by Tarte. The cremesheen formula by M.A.C is less pigmented and allows my natural lip colour to show through ever so slightly. Both cremesheen lipsticks by M.A.C are buildable to the same level of pigmentation as Maybelline after running them over twice.

Third, Nippon by M.A.C has a teeny bit more of silver glitter than all the other three lipsticks. But this has negligible impact on the overall look.

Fourth, the Maybelline Coloursensational is the most comfortable to wear and also lasts the longest. The M.A.C Cremesheen formula are comfortable but could get a little chunky on the lips as time passes. The Tarte formula does not last on my lips and is chunky from the start of application.

Overall
I will go for Nippon Cremesheen by M.A.C as a dupe for Ever Hip because there is no visible difference between the two when I wear them on my lips. Nippon is a permanent colour.

However, I always feel joy when I wear Beige Truffle from the Nude line of Maybelline Coloursensational lipsticks because the formula is top-notch, so affordable, and the packaging is stunning.

To what extent do you agree with my analysis based on the swatches? Would Nippon be the best dupe?

I emptied these products in 2015.

From left to right:

1. Matcha Green Tea with real matcha powder from 7-11 was a good product because it contains a large dosage of real matcha. I turned the cap to open the seal and release the matcha powder into the water below. I shake the bottle and the matcha green tea is ready to drink!

2. fresh SUGAR Lip Therapy Lip Balm was an amazing product that saved my lips in the dry Australian summer. This lip balm sank into my lips and offered sustained protection from the dry air and harsh winds. I have almost all the flavours of lip balm from fresh SUGAR.

3. St Ives Even and Bright exfoliating shower gel scrubbed thoroughly but gently. I also love its fragrance and colour. I have all the St Ives shower gels from this series.

4. Biore Makeup Removal Cleansing Wipes were effective, soft, and moist. The moisture lasted a long time before drying. I have repurchased a couple of packets.

5. Sephora Smooth Nail Polish Removal in liquid form (not the one with the sponge) was gentle on my nails and non-pungent. I loved its effectiveness. This is the second bottle that I have emptied.

6. Burt's Bees Deep Cleansing Cream was strong and effective at cleaning yet ultra mild on my sensitive skin. I would have purchased this in its full size if not for the high costs and my overflowing stash of cleansers.

7. Nivea Sun Whitenening SPF 50 PA+++ was so affordable and very effective at preventing sunburn. I used it on my last beach holiday. I will buy it again for everyday use but not for long and strong exposure to the sun because I think Banana Boat sunblocks are still better.

8. Blanc de Blanc 3 in 1 Hydro Retention Gel was very effective at hydrating my skin in air-conditioned sleeping environment. This was my second and final tube of this product. I will not repurchase it for now because I have other face masks and sleeping gels to finish.

9. Ulta White moisturiser that I bought from Thailand was very comfortable on the face and also the wallet. I loved it while it lasted - a good 1 year. However, I have learned never to buy skincare from overseas if I know I cannot get it again because the truth is that I will never fly all the way back to get the same thing. I will also not trouble others to get this for me because it is hard to find.

10. Ma Cherie Shampoo and Conditioner was good while it lasted but not excellent. I do not intend to purchase the full size of it as my heart is still with Ascience and L'oreal Elseve. I find it difficult to switch brands now.

11. Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer was a gorgeous product that lasted me a good three years. The product is so well-sealed and has a very sanitary twist-up-only-what-you-need packaging that it was in prime condition till the very last drop. I miss it so much and I am always tempted to buy another tube. I am just holding back the urge because I want to finish my Urban Decay Primer Potion for face. I highly recommend people will dull and/or dry skin to buy the Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer!
Pro makeup artists say.

I agree because I have learned this lesson the hard way. I have had been enamoured of heavy duty creamy concealers such as the Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Palette for a very long time because I find creamy concealers extraordinarily pigmented. The extra pigmentation of the concealer always covers my dark undereye circles completely. However, the thick cream texture of the concealer makes the concealer cling to my fine lines so much that it ages me more than dark eye circles do. With that, I set out on another mission to find the perfect undereye concealer.

My new favourite undereye concealer is the Marc Jacobs Beauty Remedy Concealer Pen. My current shade is Late Show (04). I will save the review of this pen for another day because I want to share some tips that I have found to be true after doing my makeup for so long.

It sounded like she was making a comment and not asking a question. Curious, I turned around to look and saw her face scrunched up in disgust. I also saw the two girls spinning around to exit the store quickly.

This episode made me realise two things,
i) brushes are perceived to be of high importance for proper makeup nowadays and seen to be almost a must, and
ii) brushes are expensive, maybe almost too expensive for a younger audience.

This scene made me reflect on the time I started this blog. Then, I too had few brushes to use but I survived pretty well on what I had. I will present some insights on makeup brushes from the perspective of a makeup-lover.

Let me present the Positively Nice Makeup Brushes 101!

Q1: When did you get your first makeup brush?
A1: I got my first makeup brush when I was 20 years' old.

Q2: What brush/brushes did you get first?
A2: A lip brush, a blending brush, and a retractable blush brush.

Q3: Why did you get those?
A3: It was my first foray into makeup, and I had no idea what to do. I walked into Make Up Store and asked for a recommendation. They gave me a makeover and recommended me some products, which I obediently bought.

Q4: How much did it cost? On hindsight, do you find it necessary to spend that money?
A4: About $200 odd for the brushes alone (each brush was about $80). Yes and no.

I paid for more than the brushes because I paid for professional makeup artists to guide me and to help me select a ready set of brushes that will perform the functions needed when I bought something from a physical store. I also paid for the makeup artists to show me how to use what I purchased.

At the point when I bought from Make Up Store, I felt it was necessary to pay for a service because Michelle Phan videos did not exist. Forums such as Flowerpod or Cozycot did not exist too.

Right now, first-timers could search for starter guides on the internet. First-timers could cross-reference various guides then go out to stores to test the brushes before deciding. Stores are also much more open to testing than when I first started.

Overall, I think that the whole makeup scene is much more accessible to first-timers than before because advertisers will pay content creators to teach consumers so that consumers seldom have to pay a real person to learn makeup. From the consumer point of view, the consumer can now self-educate.

Q5: Why are all the brushes so expensive?
A5: The brushes are so expensive because the girls (in my anecdote) were in the wrong place! I went through the same experience - looking high and low but in all the wrong places.

"All" is a sweeping word. Not all brushes are "so" expensive. The consumer has to understand what constitutes a brush before learning why some brushes cost more than others.

There are many factors that determine the price of a brush. Branding is one factor. The construct is another factor. I will link a video below to show one factor under the construct of a brush - the bristles.

Q6: Could you show me some brushes that are more affordable?
A6: Of course! PositivelyNice takes pride in casting the radar on affordable products.

By Brands (in alphabetical order)
Packaging
This came with a cardboard backing that I had thrown away. The product itself is the most nondescript pencil, just black, double-ended, with name printed in unbolded gold font.

I do love it when brow pencils come with that spoolie behind, because I do use them.

Product
What really caught my eye and made me buy was the flat pencil with oval cross-section (below), because this means that you can easily draw a sharp tail at the ends of your brows, and then turn it over, use the long side of the oval to fill in the centre of the brows. It is so convenient, and reminds me of the flat pencils that Shu Uemura sell.

Texture
The texture of this product is also just right, kind of hard and dry, which is good for eyebrow pencils, because then, they will draw well (pull off on the brow hair well), and also last long. You definitely don't want a soft creamy buttery gel eyeliner product on your brows because they will smudge when sweat trickles down your forehead, unless you want to set it with lots of wax to waterproof it.

Effect
This eyebrow pencil gives the exact grey you see in the photos. It will suit people with black hair, but probably not anyone else. As someone with jet black hair, I do really love this product. The colour matches my hair, and the product is so thin, and sleek, and easy to use.

On the Face
I wore this in many of my FOTDs, and one of them is here.
I have tried a handful of eyebrow pencils that cost less than $2, and they just really don't work as well. Normally, the colour match is off, either straight up black, or red tone brown. It is really hard to find a brow pencil without red when you look in thrift stores. But this one from Daiso is just perfect.

You probably can get away with it even if your hair is dyed a dark brunette. It'd be quite weird to have greyish-black brows if you are fair and dye your hair blonde.

Rating: 5/5
This eyebrow pencil made its way into my dresser drawer since the first time I tried it, and it is definitely something I use weekly. I alternate between this grey pencil, the ash brown one from Empro, and the Bebe Poshe Sexy Brow Shaper that is a deeper brown.

My little complain? I wish this brand make more shades/colour, then more people can enjoy it.

Buying Tip
Personally, I am obsessed with flat eyebrow pencils, and I almost never buy any brow pencil that is not flat. I dislike those which just have the regular rounded cylindrical shape. I'd say, look out for the flat ones from Daiso, and skip the round ones.

Also, refrain from buying the black and brown ones, because black is too harsh, even on someone with raven black hair, and brown tend to have red tone. Get it only if it says grey or ash brown or ash grey, or anything that is ashy.

Did you know?
PositivelyNice has a tag called "Daiso". You can hold your mouse over the right end of your screen, and the sidebar will pop out. Scroll down, and click on the button that looks like a tag and is called "Catergories", then click on "Daiso". You will then find all of my reviews on Daiso products, including household items.

Ellefar Comb Mascara Longlash Black a.k.a. Comb Mascara Long & Curl

Packaging

I find that much of Daiso's makeup come from this brand called Ellefar. I have also seen Ellefar at some Guardian outlets for about 7 times the price ($14 +/-).

Packaging

Ellefar's makeup are all packaged in the same way, with product in clear plastic, sealed onto a cardboard backing. This method of packaging is very old-schooled, but very practical for ultra budget-friendly products because it allows the consumer to view the whole of the product, print patterns as a form of advertisement on the front, and provide detailed information on the back. Packaging cannot get more efficient and effective than that, when there are no testers.

I enjoy the large amount of information printed on the back, but this form of packaging does leave the consumer with unnecessary waste. That said, these old-school rough cardboard are very recyclable, so make sure to collect them and sell it off with the old newspapers!

Mascara Wand
I was actually really surprised to pull out the wand and find that it looks exactly as advertised on the packaging! I know it is kind of silly to expect anything different. I was probably a bit too judgmental of Daiso makeup back then because this mascara is my first Daiso mascara.

Now, I have adjusted my expectations, and I do actually kind of like Daiso makeup. Or rather, I treat them as equal - that there will always be hits and misses in any product line, regardless of origin or retail price.

The wand has comb finishes on both sides, and is flat (photo below).

Daiso, Ellefar Comb Mascara Long & Curl - Mascara Wand.

The mascara wand works very well on my small hooded eyes. It is able to pick up lashes on my lower lash line very well.

Mascara Liquid
The most surprising part of this mascara is definitely the formula. The formula is amazing, it is waterproof, it thickens my lashes, and holds my curls! It is so good that this mascara has made it into the drawer under my dressing table, and now lies beside Dollywink, Maybelline, etc.

Now, this brings me to the ingredients (photo below).

If you look closely at the ingredients, you will find a lot of waterproofing substances. Amongst the substances, wax is the most important for waterproofing. Beeswax is the commonly used form of wax. And in this mascara, carnauba wax is also used. In all, this means that this mascara is actually waterproof even though it does not claim to be so.

Similarly, you can use this knowledge to check if mascaras which claim to be waterproof will be truly waterproof. Usually, mascaras which claim to be waterproof will have a high content of wax, and so the beeswax should be in the top 3 (usually) or top 5 ingredients. Otherwise, the waterproof quality will be weaker.

Also, glyceryl stearate is ever so slightly waterproof. Ceresin is for holding the product together, to give the product strength. I am assuming that this translates into the curl-holding ability of the mascara.

The other ingredients serve to make the mascara glossy, hold together, and also provide a certain level of fluidity. Parabens are for preservation and oxides are for colour. Only a trace amount of parabens and colorants are needed, so you normally find them at the end of the ingredients list.

Rating: 4.8/5.
I use it like any other regular everyday mascara. I find that it works well for me, and I LOVE comb mascaras.

I feel so bad. I need to give this a 5/5 because it is so affordable, and there really is nothing wrong with it. It is just not as perfect as Sasa Super Dolly or Majolica Majorca when it comes to comb mascaras. I guess, while I will not count this as the best, I will consider it a rave-product.

PS: The brand is Ellefar. (Just in case the packaging has changed.)

Have you tried this? Have you tried any other makeup from Daiso? What do you think?
Wow! Thanks to makemeup89 for this. I just learned about how you can mix honey with sugar for a great lip scrub from a programme on my local TV, and also that you can use raw lemon slice to rub your lips gently for a brief moment to lighten it. Yet, I think this makemeup89 video really takes the cake!

Just have to share. Enjoy!Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-72037522287801346752014-12-11T14:47:00.002+08:002014-12-11T14:47:47.560+08:00New PositivelyNice in Dynamic ViewsWow! I just found out that Blogger now provides free Dynamic Views templates, switched to it, and I think I will never look back!

I have just tried the Dynamic Views myself, and they are so much better! You can change the view mode from Classic, to Flipcard, Magazine, Mosaic, Sidebar, Snapshot, and Timeslide!

My favourite view is Flipcard and Sidebar. Flipcard allows you to see all the posts in square tiles in one glance. And side bard allows you to scrolls down, and down, and down, and down… … while still keeping sight of what is going on using the Sidebar.

The other views are great too! There is Snapshot view if you are a true blue Instagrammer, and you only pictures and more pictures. Timeslide is another one that allows you to scroll down infinitely, but this one lets you view snippets of what I have written without ever going into any of the posts.

Try it and tell me which view you like!

By the way, if you are wondering where my banner went, where my favourite bloggers list went, where the tag list went, etc, etc, it is in a dynamic sidebar that moves (that's why it is termed "dynamic) as you scroll down. You just have to push your mouse into the right end of your screen.

Oh, this is seriously a discovery of a blogging lifetime! I should have upgrade earlier for you, rather than stick to my old template. I liked the old template because while I got it free, I customised it a lot to make everything go exactly where I want - everything on one page. But I wasn't keeping up with the times; I don't have to put everything on one page because with Dynamic Views, everything still remains "on one page", within easy reach.Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-63175363598220906492014-12-11T13:46:00.004+08:002014-12-11T13:46:57.697+08:00FOTD: Casual Normal OutingI am reaching a point in life where I really know which things really work, and am beginning to realise that I gravitate towards those same old things all the time. May you be blessed with a wonder weekend!Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-82050743901750316282014-12-10T18:00:00.000+08:002014-12-10T18:00:04.376+08:00The Body Shop Home Fragrance Oil - White Musk, Pomegranate & Raspberry, Satsuma, and Green Tea & LemonI like places to smell good, and I had been using candles before I found these home fragrance oils by The Body Shop. I am replacing my candles with oils because the scent from candles are just less strong and less lasting than that from oils.

I have also tried reed diffuser before, but I find it very hard to control the amount of product to use with a reed diffuser, so I discontinued using that.

Want to find out how home fragrance oils match up to candles and reed diffusers? Read on!

The Body Shop Home Fragrance Oil - White Musk, Pomegranate & Raspberry, Satsuma, and Green Tea & Lemon

Packaging
The packaging is standard for oils. It is a glass bottle with a cap that can only be opened if you push down and turn.

Usage
I normally drip the oil into my burner until it comes up to the size of a 50-cents coin. I light a tea candle, and let it burn in the burner. This amount of oil will last you the life of the entire candle.

Product
I find that the oils are really strong, and they diffuse fast around my room. They are very good quality.

The four that I show here are my favourite scents out of the whole collection by The Body Shop. Musk is just my favourite scent ever, ever, and I love it in my bedroom. Pomegranate & Raspberry is an amazing berry scent, very fresh, and great for living room. Satsuma is a citrus scent, also very fresh, but I prefer it in the bathroom for wake-me-up feel. Green Tea & Lemon is the lightest of the four here, and it is great for study room!

I probably wouldn't buy the other fragrances because I have testes them all in-store, and I simply don't enjoy the smell the others. That said, scents are very personal, and you might like the others.

Cost
I got them at some $6 during The Body Shop annual end-of-year sale. Stock up then, and it will last you the whole year.

I just finished the bottle of White Musk, and it lasts about 30 - 50 tea candles, depending on whether you waste the oil or not.

Really value for money if you are looking for a good way to fragrance up your room(s)!Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-81928438238964314592014-12-09T18:00:00.000+08:002014-12-09T18:00:06.250+08:00Essence Lash and Brow Gel MascaraWhy did I buy it?
1. I've watched too many people using brow gels, so brow gel sounds like something of a must.
2. People say that brow gels help to set the powder and keep the drawn brows there all day.
3. This one by Essence looks so cool, with all clear-transparent tube, with a little bit of bright aqua blue.
4. It is also really affordable! If I don't remember wrongly, it is probably $3-$4.

Does this product live up to my expectations? Read on to find out.

Essence Lash and Brow Gel Mascara
Packaging
The product comes in a short clear transparent tube (shorter than standard mascara tubes), and the cap unscrews to reveal a white brush.

Product
The brush will pick up just the right amount of gel for my eyebrows, such that my brows will never look too wet or tacky.

The gel itself is completely transparent upon drying, and only ever so slightly sticky. In fact, it dries up non-sticky. It also dries up fast once applied. This is great, because I don't want strands of hair to stick on my eyebrows during the day.

Effectiveness
I think it does the job of setting and keeping my brow powder on my eyebrows throughout the day. Although it does not make that much difference, I still habitually apply it whenever I use brow powder instead of brow pencil because I already own this item.

Cost
It is so affordable, and it will last forever, so there is no need to go out and get another anytime soon. I love Essence!

Rating: 5/5
It does the job and I can't find anything wrong with it. That said, brow gels are actually not a must. If you use brow pencils that are a lot drier and stay in place better, and you don't deliberately rub your brows all the time, you really don't need a brow gel.Joey Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15868359450248007144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3706438697998976118.post-26570518373098230542014-12-08T18:00:00.000+08:002014-12-08T18:00:01.927+08:00Shopping at Sephora in SingaporeThis is how it feels if you were a local.

Pros

Sole retailer of numerous foreign brands, like Urban Decay, Too Faced, Stila, Smashbox, Marc Jacobs, Ole Henriksen, First Aid Beauty, Soap and Glory, Burt's Bees, and more.

Less intimidating; makes you feel less obliged to buy. This is because the products are displayed in a fashion closer to supermarket (open shelves) than counter-top. Also, Beauty Advisors/ Sales Assistants wear less loud and/or less polished makeup, as opposed to Advisors at departmental store counters or boutique store counters. That contributes to a more testing-friendly environment. In addition, testers are always put out and replenished, with water, brush cleaners, cotton pads, and makeup removers provided.

Amazingly wide selection of fragrances available, together with never-ending amount of test strips provided, with coffee beans.

Sephora card member enjoy 10% discount for every $250 spent prior.

Discount is extended to M.A.C counter and Dior counter located inside Sephora Ion Orchard.

Has many outlets all over Singapore, latest being at Tampines 1 shopping mall.

Cons

Service is haphazard; sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't.

How to get prompt and good service:

1. Go during less peak hours.

2. Go with full face of makeup on, working class clothes, and somewhat branded handbag. (Advisors are human, and female. They earn a commission out of how many items they can help put in your basket. They will judge, and they will judge more harshly than you think would be appropriate.)

3. Look for advisors who are not already serving others, especially not those who are carrying baskets filled with loads of products, because it tends to be that that advisor will follow that customer all over the place, until that customer pays.

Neutral Notes

I prefer serving myself most of the times, because that is how I grew up.

Also, I hate people tailgating me. If you drive, you will empathize with this.

Besides, I know where they store the stocks.

Furthermore, I often do not get satisfactory answers from the advisors, so much so that I now prefer asking Google with 3G on my phone.

I wish that more of the staffs were more knowledgeable. But this is not easy. This is service, and it is the same situation with other service sections in some developed cities, always short of manpower, with high turnover. Individual staffs are just doing their jobs, and doing what they can. It is on the employer to invest in hiring and/or staff training.

Conclusion

I still visit the store despite dissatisfactory service because they have a monopoly to retail many brands.

How about you? How do you feel when you try to purchase at Sephora? What are some of your best and worst experiences? What are some aspects you think they can improve in?

They are really, really simple. And the key is to keep the darker colour to only the outer-1/3, do overdo. Also, blend, blend blend. Eyeliner is optional, I almost didn't want to do eyeliner because the colours and finish are already so pretty.

The first two looks are super affordable, applied using my finger tips only, and come from this Rhomlon palette that I bought from one of those small beauty supplies shops (e.g. Chameleon, Sinma).

Third one is a Katniss Everdeen wedding in the movie, inspired look (without crystals).

And I used the black and silver eyeshadows only, from a Silkygirl quad, called Blockbuster Colour Palette in #09 Sparkling Star. The palette is about $7 without discount in Watsons. Try to get it on discount.

I still can't believe that Silkygirl palette has allowed me to do such an amazing smoky eye… …

That's all for now! Goodbye!
