Silkygirl Blush Hour in 03 Flashing Rose

The budget beauty item is here again! If you've been reading my posts for the last month or more, you would notice I keep pointing out Flashing Rose, Flashing Rose, and this is because I really love the cheap and good Flashing Rose so much! I bought it way back in mid-April in an attempt to get the sweet dewy look here, but ended up using the Blushing Trio from Silkygirl instead. But I found out how much I really love this when I got the Maybelline Jelly Glow in Sweet Momo.

So let's get into this!

Silkygirl Blush Hour in 03 Flashing Rose

Star Properties: It says Not Tested on Animals, but I wouldn't know if it's totally non-tested, or only parts.


Ingredients: As below. It contains Mica, in case anybody is sensitive to that. Way down, it also contains grape seed oil and sunflower oil, that is probably there to help gliding, and give a bit of moisturizing properties.

Packaging
This is comes in a wonderfully streamlined, absolutely transparent plastic case, that the cover can open all the way down. I just love this kind of clear compact packaging, because it makes my life so much easier when carrying out and looking for the right color.

The blush itself comes in a rectangular pan with quite a large surface area. This is another plus point for me, as the rectangular one in Majolica Majorca is just way too narrow to dab my brush in!

Brush
The brush is passable. I find it kind of scratchy and it flays. But if I just tap the brush into the blush a couple of times, I get that amount you see in the photo below. So I do believe this brush is made of natural hair, and the blush itself is also pigmented enough for me.

And with this, I can tap the color onto my cheek bones, and then blend it out. This technique is really great for touchups and to give that dispersed color, natural glow from within look, ESPECIALLY when I am using the Maybelline Jelly Glow underneath. Gosh, I can't stop raving about the Jelly Glow!

I normally use my e.l.f Powder Brush (flat top kabuki with natural hair) or one of my favorite blush brushes, like the Lauren Luke Contour Brush, Le Metier De Beaute Blush Brush, or Sephora Professional Blush Brush, depending on the shape of the blush I want that day.

Don't throw the brush that comes along with Flashing Rose away, because it is sits nicely in the compact, and you can just slip the whole compact into your little dinner pouch and bring it out for touchups, instead of bringing a travel brush!

Color
03 Flashing Rose appears as a true rose in the palette.

But on hand, it appears more as a powder pink.

Formula
As you can see in the photo above, the formula is matte. So if you're looking for a matte drugstore blusher, do check out the Silkygirl Blush Hour. (It's so hard to find matte blushes in drugstores.)

It is creamy and feels so great to swipe with my fingers, definitely better than what I expect from a drugstore blush, and better than formula from Benefit (I love my Sugarbomb, but I admit that formula is nowhere near the best).

In fact this is the winning point for me, and what closed me to buy it.

Pigmented
I have no problems getting this to show up on my face at all. I normally tap my e.l.f flat top brush in twice, and can get the color you see below. I will tap another once or twice in the blush to blend outwards and upwards towards my ears.

03 Flashing Rose alone, no Jelly Glow underneath.

It appears as an extremely wearable perfect true rose (I will not wear the powder pink that you see on my hand).

For those who are new to my blog, my all-time fail-proof color is Rose. Rose or Rosewood, or pink rose or whatever rose always go very well on my warm NC23-25 skin, be it cheek color or lip color. It's the Holy Grail natural color for me, and I know I just wouldn't go wrong if I choose a rose tone color.

And blended out properly, facing the front, it looks so subtle and gives me that natural pinky glow.

On my eyes are colors from a $2 palette called Crayon, and Essence Multi-Action False Lashes Mascara. Filled in my brows with the light brown from the $2 palette too. On my lips is Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color in 04 Pin-up Pink. Stay tuned for upcoming series of reviews on $2 cosmetics!

I tend to use this over the Maybelline Jelly Glow in Sweet Momo, just to ensure it lasts 6-8 hours, and to give it that extra dimension, as Flashing Rose is a flat color, with no specks/reflects, no shimmer/sparkle, highlight/sheen or anything. Using over the Sweet Momo Jelly Glow makes my cheeks more 3D, as the Jelly Glow gives the soft highlight to my cheek bones.

Cost
If I don't remember wrongly, this is $11.90. I honestly think it is kind of expensive for the status of the brand and for a matte flat basic blush color. But in relative terms to all the blushes in my country's drugstore, this is the cheapest you can get, other than Essence (which is only available at Ngee Ann City Watsons).

You could always wait for the 20% discount to try it.

Worth checking out! 5/5
For the price, as the cheapest drugstore cheek color you can get, I think this is perfect. Creamy formula, true rose that appears bright on my darker skin, matte finish, pigmented, nothing more to demand from a blush at this price.

For those who prefer blushes to come in multi-dimensions, you will not get the 3D effect with this as the color is a flat Flashing Rose. There are no iridescent specks/shimmer/sheen/satin finish with this, as you would demand from high-end blushes. I use Maybelline Jelly Glow underneath to help this become 3D and standout more.

It is a great basic color to pick up, but if you already have tons of basic color, you can skip this. More recommended for beginners or people who want to try out colors they don't normally use. Like if you normally only use pink blushes, and you want to try coral or orangey ones, you can start from something cheaper like the Silkygirl Blush Hour, instead of buying Le Metier De Beaute at $50 and decide you cannot wear coral.
