Before I returned to Singapore last year, I had a hair cut and rebond done at a hair salon under my then fiance's apartment, in Subang, Malaysia. According to the hair stylist, the rebond chemical is largely natural, and a lot less damaging, of which, I believe, because my hair is so surprisingly "healthy" after that, compared to all my previous rebonding adventures. Due to this, I decided to get myself a more natural shampoo, in an attempt to maintain the much healthier state of my hair, as I was then so sick and tired of dry, damaged, and frizzy hair.
It so happened that I came across this twin pack of Nature's Gate Shampoo and Conditioner at a promotional price of $14.90, that makes the 2 x 532ml bottles so worth a try. So I bought it, even though I have 3 sets of shampoos and conditioners of various uses and brands that I've stocked up over the last 1 year.
I have never used natural and/or organic shampoo before, and personally did not have much hope in natural shampoo, because my hair is so damaged, and natural just seems way to mild to do anything for me. But I guess, there is always a time and place for everything, and then, I decided it was time to try something new, to make a change, so that I may have hope for something different and positive.
So here goes Jyoan on an adventure of natural hair wash!
Packaging
I was once very fond of this kind of bottles, that you click it up, then the mouth opens, and you squeeze the contents out. But now that my current hand cream and this huge bottle of shampoo uses this dispense method, I have come to dislike it.
The thing about this form of dispense is that, the bottle gets empty very soon, and you will be squeezing air out, sucking air in, so on and so forth. And when there is very little content left, you have got to store it upside down, so that you don't get frustrated squeezing content out every time. This is bad.
Colour
I honestly am not fond of the "natural" unappealing colour of both the shampoo and conditioner. The former is a dull and pale, mouldy green, while the latter is strangely brown. Absolutely looks of herb, and nothing else.
Smell
I kind of like the smell of both the shampoo and conditioner though. Not fantastic like perfumes, but they are just uniquely mild and herb-like, if you get what I mean.
Texture
The shampoo is extremely watery, while the conditioner is a lot thicker. Nevertheless, a little goes quite a long way for both.
Effect
I like them a lot! I swear that using natural shampoo reversed my hair-fall. Previously, I was not aware that my hair was actually falling a lot, especially from Ascience. But after being on shampoos like Biovalley Alpine Mint Shampoo, which I had reviewed, and TRESemme Salon Silk Conditioner, which I had also reviewed, I realized that my hair doesn't drops so much in the bathroom, and is significantly less frizzy, more volumized, naturally silky and shiny!
I always thought normal Pantene, Ascience, L'oreal are good enough, until my hair journey took a turn in Malaysia. I know that I have raved about Ascience a lot, and I still vouch that it make hair very, very smooth, but I did bring up the point about smoothness coming from silicones, and silicones stuck on your scalp will cause hair fall, oily scalp etc. So use with some caution, a clarifying shampoo, alternate them, or just be like me, try a switchover to more natural/plant-based hair care.
I don't know how long the plant-based hair care will have effect on me, but for now, it is really showing good results.
Cost
Definitely very cheap. Considering, I have just emptied the bottle, and I started using beginning of September. That makes a whole 6 over months.
I love it: 4.5 hearts.
Marks deducted because I think the dispense method can be changed.
